There are stereotypes about every country, all over the world. Some are completely made up for fun and humour purposes, while some others are actually true. These stereotypes can form from culture, religion, traditions… the list goes on. People show these stereotypes in movies, music and day to day life. Below are some of the most common Italian stereotypes, that are in fact accurate!
1. Italians are habitually late
Whether it is work or casual meet ups, Italians work in accordance with their own timeline. When questioned why they are late, casual responses such as, ‘I stopped for a smoke’, are common.

2. Italians love football
Italians take football very seriously. When watching a game, no one can divert their attention from it. Whether you are at the stadium, on the streets or watching it on TV at home, rest assured you will know when Italians are watching football!

3. Italians are obsessed with fashion
Italians pride themselves on their dress fashion, it is religiously practiced in Italy. Brands like Armani, Versace, Prada, are proof of this. However, you don’t have to wear designer clothes to look fashionable. Italian’s ‘Sunday Best’ can be on a budget, but look amazing. Italians feel an obligation to look good, and this stereotype is in fact accurate!

4. Italians talk with their hands
Whether you are happy, sad, angry or content.. Italian’s are known for using their hands when they talk. This habit of talking with one’s hands has been reported to address and reinforce the meaning of expressions. It really emphasises what you are trying to say… sit for a few hours in a town in Italy and I am certain you will be able to confirm that this stereotype is correct!

5. Families are most important to Italians
There is no doubt Italians have a undeniably strong bond with their families. Whether the family live together or not, they meet for weekly gatherings. Relationships in Italian families are very important and cherished by all.

6. Italians love pasta
Italians are known for their delicious cuisine, and pasta being the most famous one. It is certainly accurate that Italians love pasta. The beauty of it is, there are over 600 pasta shapes to choose from, so you never get bored of making it! Fun fact, Italians consume 60 pounds of paster per year!
